Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) released the following statement after President Biden’s State of the Union address. “President Biden spent much of tonight’s speech talking about the need to restore bipartisanship and working together to ‘finish the job’, while simultaneously bashing Republicans in the House Majority,” said Rep. Lawler. “Extending an olive branch only to have it followed by a stick is no way to engage in actual bipartisanship.” “President Biden missed a real opportunity to forge a bipartisan path forward and provide real solutions to the challenges we are facing as a nation — both domestically and abroad,” continued Rep. Lawler. “With a divided government, it’s incumbent on President Biden and his team to work with the Republican House Majority on the issues that matter — spending, debt ceiling, fentanyl and opioid crisis, immigration, and national security.” “As we move forward, the President must drop the rhetoric and actually engage in bipartisan talks to advance substantive legislation on the issues Americans care about,” concluded Rep. Lawler. New York’s 17th District, which includes all or parts of Rockland, Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess counties, is a suburban district located just north of New York City. |
