Today, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) released the following statement following the election of Rep. Mike Johnson to Speaker of the House.

"For over three weeks, the House has been without a Speaker, preventing us from doing the important work of the American people. It is imperative that we get back to governing.

Speaker Mike Johnson is hardworking and smart, and I am confident that despite any differences we may have on policy, he is fully capable of unifying our conference and leading the House forward.

Congress must quickly move to support our greatest ally Israel, secure our southern border, pass our remaining Appropriations bills, and prevent a government shutdown. 

I will continue to be the bipartisan, independent voice that Hudson Valley residents sent me to Washington to be, holding the Biden administration accountable and standing up to my own party when warranted.

It’s time to get back to work for the American people."
