REP. LAWLER HERALDS PASSAGE OF SHIP ACT IN FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
Washington, DC,
October 20, 2023
Congressman Mike Lawler (R-NY-17) heralded the passage of the Stop Harboring Iranian Petroleum (SHIP) Act by the House Foreign Affairs Committee yesterday afternoon. "After the devastating terror attack and mass murders perpetrated against Israel by Iran-backed Hamas, holding Iran’s enablers accountable for their support for terrorism is more crucial than ever," said Congressman Lawler (NY-17). "The SHIP Act, which Jared Moskowitz and I introduced earlier this year, will impose sanctions on foreign ports and refineries that process Iranian petroleum and undermine U.S. sanctions." "Expanding sanctions on the Iranian oil trade sends a strong message that the U.S. will not sit by as Iran fills its coffers to fund terrorism, develop its nuclear program, and commit abhorrent human rights abuses," continued Congressman Lawler (NY-17). "I am proud that about half of my House of Representatives colleagues have cosponsored the SHIP Act, and even more proud to see it pass the Foreign Affairs Committee with broad bipartisan support. I will continue working with my colleagues to get this legislation passed and signed into law as expeditiously as possible."
