LAWLER CALLS ON BIDEN TO COOPERATE IN BIPARTISAN FASHION ON DEBT CEILING NEGOTIATIONS

Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) released the following statement after Speaker McCarthy’s address regarding the debt ceiling.

“Speaker McCarthy made it emphatically clear - cuts to Medicare and Social Security are off the table,” said Rep. Lawler. “It is now incumbent on President Biden to engage in good-faith negotiations to get our reckless spending under control while responsibly lifting the debt ceiling.”

“President Biden’s advisers have wasted valuable negotiating time complaining to the media about ‘the need for a clean debt ceiling bill’, despite members of their own party recognizing the gravity of this moment,” concluded Rep. Lawler. “Together, we can forge bipartisan solutions on the debt ceiling, on federal spending, and on the issues that truly matter to the American people.”
