LAWLER CO-SPONSORS BILL ENSURING MILITARY GETS PAID IN EVENT OF GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN
Washington, DC,
September 26, 2023
Congressman Mike Lawler (R-NY-17) today announced his co-sponsorship of H.R. 5641, the Pay Our Troops Act. This bipartisan legislation, introduced by Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (R-VA-02) would ensure that members of the military continue to get paid in the event of a government shutdown. H.R. 5641 has close to 30 co-sponsors and additional members are adding their names daily. "One out of every two households in New York's 17th District has a veteran, service member, law enforcement officer, or first responder living in the household. We are a community of heroes and we need to look out for our heroes," said Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17). "I have said since we arrived at this impasse that we need to avoid a shutdown and that the American people expect us to govern. But our men and women in uniform shouldn't pay the price for Washington's foolishness. That's why I'm proud to add my name to the Pay Our Troops Act, which will ensure that no matter what happens at the end of the week, our military continues to get paid," continued Congressman Lawler (NY-17). "As I have said before, I didn't come to Washington to play political games, and we certainly shouldn't be playing political games at the expense of our military," concluded Congressman Lawler (NY-17).
