Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement upon news of a deadly shooting at a synagogue in Jerusalem that claimed at least 5 lives and left many others injured.

"My heart goes out to the victims of today’s deadly terror attack in Israel’s Capital. No one should have to fear for their lives in a place of worship, yet today in Jerusalem a synagogue was deliberately targeted. The fact that this occurred on International Holocaust Remembrance Day only compounds the pain of what is already a solemn day for the State of Israel. The Jewish people continually face attacks on their very lives and their homeland faces threats daily from those who would deny their very right to exist. We must never waver in our commitment to the peace and security of our ally Israel. Let us be clear, acts of terror against the Jewish people cannot and will not stand. All who are responsible for this evil act must be brought to justice."
