Lawler, Gottheimer Lead Bipartisan Effort to Empower Workers in the Age of AI

Washington, D.C. – 2/20/26… This week, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) joined Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05) in introducing the bipartisan AI Workforce Training Act, legislation designed to safeguard American workers and businesses from being displaced by artificial intelligence (AI) and to ensure they are equipped with the skills needed to work effectively with these emerging technologies.

As artificial intelligence continues to advance, influencing the workforce, national security, health care, energy, and beyond, this bipartisan legislation will incentivize businesses to provide proper training that helps employees adapt, grow their skills, and compete in a rapidly changing economy by creating a new tax credit for workforce AI education.

“If quantum computing and AI are the future, our workforce can’t be left behind. This workforce tax credit gives them the training they need to compete for the high-paying tech jobs of tomorrow, right here at home,” said Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17).

“AI is already changing how we work and that transformation will keep getting faster, and we can’t let the American worker get left behind,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “Change is coming, and if we want America to continue to lead the world in AI innovation, we need to make sure American workers are ready for the jobs of the future. This bipartisan bill will help workers build critical AI skills, boost productivity, and strengthen our economy — all while keeping the United States at the front of the pack.”
