Lawler Urges Department of War to Maintain Longstanding Partnership With Scouting America

Washington, D.C. - 1/16/25… Last week, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) sent a letter to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth expressing concern over reports that the Department of War is evaluating its longstanding relationship with Scouting America. Nearly 20 percent of cadets and midshipmen have partaken in scouting in their youth, earning ranks of Eagle Scout, demonstrating the program’s role in shaping the next generation of service members. For active-duty military families, access to scouting on military bases and installations would allow children of service members the opportunity to build friendships, develop skills, and maintain a sense of stability in their childhood, despite frequent moves. “For nearly a century, administrations of both parties have supported this partnership in recognition of its nonpartisan value and positive impact. Scouting instills principles of preparedness, service, and responsibility, equipping young people to be successful members of society and active contributors to their communities through volunteerism and Eagle Scout service projects,” wrote the lawmaker. The full letter can be found HERE. Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. He was rated the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress, 8th overall, surpassing dozens of committee chairs. ### |
