Lawler Urges Trump Administration to Restore TANF, Child Care, and Social Services Funding to NY

Washington, D.C. – 1/8/26… Today, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) released the following statement in response to the pause in critical funding for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, the Child Care Development Fund (CCDF), and the Social Services Block Grant program in New York.

In a letter to President Donald J. Trump and Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Congressman Lawler urged the immediate reinstatement of these funds, emphasizing the need to protect Hudson Valley families who rely on these programs while separately holding fraudsters accountable.

“I agree that we must eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse at every level of government, but must do it responsibly and without cutting off critical funding for TANF and other safety net programs families-in-need rely on. That is why I have contacted the Administration and requested they reverse course and enact these reforms without hurting the least fortunate among us,” said Congressman Mike Lawler.
