Lawler Speaks Out Against Hochul and Jeffries’ Latest Attempt to Rig New York’s Congressional Maps

Washington, D.C. – 10/27/25… Today, Congressman Mike Lawler released the following statement in response to the lawsuit filed by the Elias Law Group seeking to overturn New York’s congressional maps: “Let’s be clear, this lawsuit has nothing to do with protecting minority voters and everything to do with rigging our elections to support the Democrat Party. This is the third time Democrats in New York have attempted to gerrymander our maps in three years! Kathy Hochul and Hakeem Jeffries’ ongoing disregard for the will of New York’s voters, blatant disregard for our state constitution and the independent redistricting process, as well as their contempt for Independents and Republicans in New York State, is just astonishing. New Yorkers voted overwhelmingly in favor of an independent redistricting commission to take politics out of the process. But Democrats have ignored that mandate at every turn, from attempting to gerrymander our Congressional Districts in 2021 and 2024, to changing election laws for partisan advantage, to now trying to rewrite the rules again through the courts. Regardless of party, I have always opposed partisan gerrymandering, whether it’s in Texas, Illinois, California, or New York, because voters, not politicians, should decide who represents them. This partisan attempt to corrupt our elections must be defeated.” ### Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. He was rated the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress, 8th overall, surpassing dozens of committee chairs. |
