Congressman Mike Lawler Celebrates Victory in Fully Restoring Critical Counterterrorism Funding for NY

Pearl River, N.Y. – 10/3/25… Today, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) celebrated a major victory for New York after the Trump Administration announced that critical counterterrorism funding for New York City and the Hudson Valley will be fully restored.

Earlier this week, the Department of Homeland Security proposed deep cuts to the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) program and other counter-terror funding, which provide vital resources to help law enforcement, first responders, and local governments protect against terrorism and keep New Yorkers safe. Congressman Lawler, working alongside Homeland Security Committee Chairman Andrew Garbarino (NY-02) and regional leaders, fought tirelessly to reverse this mistake.

“From day one, I made clear that these cuts were unacceptable and posed a direct threat to the safety of New Yorkers,” said Congressman Lawler. “New York remains the number one target for terrorism, and we cannot let politics put lives at risk.”

“This is a major win for our state and a testament to what we can achieve when we work together to push back on misguided decisions. I would like to thank President Trump for listening to us, working with us, and delivering for our state, ensuring that New York continues to receive the necessary resources to defend against terrorism. I would also like to thank Congressman Andrew Garbarino, whose partnership was crucial in securing this outcome. Together, we delivered for New York,” concluded Congressman Mike Lawler.
