Lawler Calls On President Trump to Restrict Visas for Iranian Regime Officials Ahead of UN General Assembly
Washington, D.C.,
September 5, 2025
Washington, D.C. – 9/5/25… Yesterday, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa, sent a letter to President Donald J. Trump urging the Administration to restrict visas and limit the movement of Iranian regime officials during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York. The letter details Iran’s worsening human rights abuses and its ongoing support for terrorism following the recent 12-day war between Israel and Iran. The regime has escalated a brutal crackdown on ethnic minorities, women’s rights activists, and political dissidents, executing nearly 1,500 people in the past year alone under President Masoud Pezeshkian’s rule. In his letter, Congressman Lawler emphasized that standing with the Iranian people in their calls for freedom and democracy is both a moral imperative and a U.S. national security priority. Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. He was rated the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress, 8th overall, surpassing dozens of committee chairs. ### The full letter can be found HERE. |
