Congressman Lawler Celebrates Reopening of Rockland Social Security Office, Renews Push for In-Person Hearings

Washington, D.C. – 8/5/25… Today, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17), proudly announced the opening of the West Nyack Social Security office on Monday, August 11, 2025, following a temporary closure for renovations. This milestone comes after persistent efforts from Congressman Lawler and his office to ensure the facility reopened promptly and restored critical services to Hudson Valley residents.

As part of his ongoing effort to expand access in the region, Congressman Lawler has formally renewed his request that the reopened office be equipped to conduct Social Security hearings following the closure of the White Plains Hearing Office, the only facility in the Hudson Valley.

“The reopening of the West Nyack Social Security office is welcome news for our community. This office is a lifeline for many of my constituents, especially our seniors and individuals with disabilities, who depend on in-person support to navigate Social Security programs. I want to thank the staff at the Social Security Administration for completing the renovations and getting this vital resource back online,” said Congressman Lawler.

Throughout the temporary closure, Congressman Lawler’s district offices remained available to assist constituents experiencing delays or issues related to their Social Security benefits. Constituents may also visit the Social Security Administration’s website at www.ssa.gov to make or change appointments, apply for benefits, or access services online.

Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. He was rated the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress, 8th overall, surpassing dozens of committee chairs.
