CONGRESSMAN LAWLER WELCOMES INDIAN PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI TO WASHINGTON

Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) released the following statement after Prime Minister Modi's historic speech in the House chambers.

"I was thrilled to welcome Prime Minister Modi to the Capitol and thank him and all of India for our friendship and alliance," said Congressman Lawler. "India is an essential partner in the Indo-Pacific region."

"During my bipartisan visit to the Indo-Pacific region earlier this year, India was frequently mentioned as a key to decoupling from China and to spreading democracy and liberty in the region," concluded Congressman Lawler. "Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed our shared ideals of liberty, democracy, and freedom during his speech today, and I am committed to ensuring that India remains the free, vibrant country it is today."

"The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to highlight the strong economic ties between our nations and spoke of growing our partnership," concluded Congressman Lawler. "I look forward to our ongoing partnership economically, militarily, and diplomatically."
