Washington, D.C. - 3/21/2025… This week, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) has joined a bipartisan effort that would lower the cost of eggs and, additionally, has cosponsored the Lowering Egg Prices Act. In a letter urging the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to reverse an outdated regulation contributing to higher egg prices and unnecessary food waste, the group of lawmakers proposes modifying the FDA’s 2009 Shell Egg Rule. “This rule made little sense when it was adopted during the Obama Administration, and it makes even less sense now as the country finds itself with skyrocketing egg prices due to the ongoing egg shortage,” wrote the lawmakers. This affordability effort is led by Reps. Josh Riley (NY-19), Dusty Johnson (SD-At large), Pat Harrigan (NC-10), and Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08). Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. ###
