Pearl River, N.Y. - 3/17/2025… This month, the office of Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) joined local officials, housing advocates, and community leaders for the ribbon-cutting of 62 Main Street, a newly redeveloped affordable housing community for seniors in Tarrytown. The project transforms the historic YMCA building into 109 units of energy-efficient, affordable housing, ensuring seniors in the Lower Hudson Valley have access to safe, modern, and sustainable homes. “Expanding affordable housing for seniors is critical, and the redevelopment of 62 Main Street is a model for how we can preserve our communities while meeting the needs of seniors,” said Congressman Lawler (NY-17). “This project not only provides much-needed housing for older adults but also sets a standard for energy efficiency and resilience with geothermal heating and cooling and on-site energy production. I’m proud to support efforts that make a real impact in our district.” “The work to revitalize 62 Main has breathed new life into this former YMCA building, returning it to the community once again as a hub of activity and as a vital resource of new affordable housing,” said Rafael E. Cestero, CEO of The Community Preservation Corporation. “We are proud to help finance the electrification and energy-efficient upgrades to the property that will provide a host of benefits for both the owner and tenants. My thanks to our partners at Wilder Balter, to Congressman Lawler, to HCR, the Town of Greenburgh and Village of Tarrytown, and to NYSERDA for their dedication and collaboration.” The redevelopment includes state-of-the-art energy upgrades, including geothermal heating and cooling systems, enhanced building insulation, and on-site energy production, making the residences both environmentally sustainable and cost-effective for residents. The project is a collaboration between local and state partners committed to addressing the housing needs of seniors while advancing energy-efficient building practices. Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. ###
