Congressman Lawler Urges President to Preserve Resettlement Programs For Afghan Allies
Washington, D.C. ,

Washington, D.C. – 3/4/2025… Today, Congressmen Mike Lawler (NY-17), Michael McCaul (TX-10), and Richard Hudson (NC-09) sent a letter to President Trump urging him to keep in place the State Department’s Office of the Coordinator for Afghan Relocation Efforts (CARE) and its Enduring Welcome program. These programs help our Afghan allies who worked alongside U.S. military and diplomatic personnel to resettle in the U.S. The letter emphasizes the necessity of the program, given that the Taliban considers anyone who worked with the U.S. to be an enemy, and continues to hunt down and execute the brave individuals that assisted us in Afghanistan. It also lays out that the Afghans in this program undergo extensive screening prior to relocation in the U.S., and differentiates CARE’s operations from that of other immigration policy. “CARE’s Enduring Welcome program is the last remaining lifeline for those who risked everything to support our mission in Afghanistan,” said Congressman Lawler (NY-17). “These brave men and women stood with us in the face of incredible danger, and now we must stand with them. It is our moral responsibility to protect these individuals, who stood by American forces during the war in Afghanistan, and I will continue to advocate for their safety and resettlement in the United States.” Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. ### The full letter can be found HERE. |
