Lawler Demands Governor Hochul Immediately Repeal Sanctuary Laws and Cooperate With Federal Law Enforcement

Washington, D.C. , February 12, 2025

Washington, D.C. - 2/12/2025… Today, in the wake of the DOJ suing New York for its absurd, pro-criminal sanctuary policies, Congressman Mike Lawler demanded that Governor Kathy Hochul repeal New York’s absurd sanctuary executive orders and Green Light Law that she herself put in place, supported, extended, and oversaw the implementation of - or face severe consequences.

"If Governor Hochul actually cared about cracking down on illegal immigration and deporting criminals, Laken Riley would be alive today," said Congressman Mike Lawler. "And should Governor Hochul continue to refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement, then she should be held civilly liable by every single victim of a crime perpetrated by an illegal immigrant in New York State.”

"I applaud Attorney General Pam Bondi for taking this step and call on Governor Hochul to repeal her Sanctuary State order immediately," concluded Congressman Mike Lawler. “Local and state law enforcement should be allowed to work with ICE to deport criminals. Full stop.”

Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
