Reps. Lawler and Ryan Reintroduce the Bipartisan Lower Grocery Prices Act to Tackle High Cost of Living in NY

Washington, D.C. - 1/31/2025… This week, Reps. Mike Lawler (NY-17) and Pat Ryan (NY-18) announced the reintroduction of legislation aimed at decreasing the cost of living crisis.

The bipartisan Lower Grocery Prices Act aims to remedy the issue of grocery affordability and hold those engaging in price-gouging accountable. The bill would require the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) to analyze the price of groceries over the last 20 years, provide effective solutions on how to lower costs, and develop a national plan to combat the high prices and ease the affordability crisis.

“I'm proud to partner with Congressman Ryan on this common sense, bipartisan bill aimed at helping middle and working-class New Yorkers,” said Rep. Mike Lawler (NY-17). “We need to be laser-focused on getting grocery prices down, reducing the cost of living, and making things a little easier for all residents of New York State. That will continue to be my focus in Congress.”

“The financial pressure folks are feeling right now is intense, and it’s across the board –  we need an all-of-the-above strategy to bring costs down for Hudson Valley families. That’s exactly why I’m proposing my comprehensive affordability agenda,” said Rep. Pat Ryan (NY-18). “Groceries, housing, prescription drugs, Social Security – we need to tackle each and every one of these issues head-on. It may be a new Congress, but the goal remains the same: lowering costs, wherever and whenever possible.”

Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
