LAWLER RELEASES A STATEMENT IN THE WAKE OF THE DURHAM REPORT

Rep. Lawler released the following statement after the Durham Report was made public yesterday.

“The findings of the Durham Report were startling and troubling, and represent a severe breach of protocol and due process on the part of the FBI. News organizations across the spectrum, including Fox News and CNN, have acknowledged the impact of this report," said Rep. Lawler. "According to the Durham Report, the FBI 'discounted or willfully ignored material information' during its investigation. That is concerning and reflective of the need for the FBI to exercise extreme caution when choosing to proceed with investigations such as this one."

"No citizen in the United States should be subject to any investigation that has 'willfully ignored material information' or facts," continued Rep. Lawler. "It is imperative that the FBI and other law enforcement agencies adhere to this core principle of the American justice system."

"To hear that 'senior F.B.I. personnel displayed a serious lack of analytical rigor toward the information that they received, especially information received from politically affiliated persons and entities' is unacceptable, and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government should consider whether or not to examine this further," concluded Rep. Lawler. "I am hopeful that the FBI will take this report into account and adjust its process for future investigations."
