  • Financial Services

The House Financial Services Committee announced the selection of Congressman Mike Lawler to serve as a member of the powerful committee during the 118th Congress.

Lawler, a graduate of Manhattan College with a degree in Accounting and Finance, previously served on the Committee on Banks and the Committee on Housing during his term in the New York State Assembly.

“I am proud to have been selected to serve on the House Financial Services Committee,” Rep. Lawler stated. “I look forward to working with Chairman McHenry and Committee members on both sides of the aisle to advance the important issues Hudson Valley voters elected me to tackle. The 17th District is home to roughly 30,000 financial service professionals and I am excited to address the challenges impacting our financial markets, financial institutions, and housing market.”

“It’s great to welcome Congressman Mike Lawler to the House Financial Services Committee,” said Chairman McHenry. “Congressman Lawler’s experience on the Banking Committee in the New York State Assembly and his strong support for small businesses makes him an excellent addition to an already talented slate of members. I’m excited to get to work with Mike as we work to deliver on Republicans’ Commitment to America.”

The House Financial Services Committee has jurisdiction over many vital economic issues, including banking, economic stabilization, defense production, pricing, financial aid to commerce and industry, insurance, international finance and monetary organizations, money and credit, housing policy, securities and exchanges, and urban development.

New York’s 17th District, which includes all or parts of Rockland, Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess counties, is a suburban district located just north of New York City. The New York Metropolitan region as a whole is vital to the financial sector and the 17th District in particular is home to nearly 30,000 financial sector employees.
