May 9, 2023
Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) released the following statement in advance of President Biden's trip to Westchester Countytomorrow. "I have 3 parameters in the debt ceiling that must be met - one, the President and Senator Schumer must negotiate with Speaker McCarthy, two, we must enact long-term spending reforms and reduce spending, and three, we must not default," said Congressman Lawler. "I was glad to see that President Biden made the decision to sit down with Congressional leaders today and begin working towards a solution on the debt ceiling," continued Congressman Lawler. "In keeping with my debt ceiling parameters, I will attend his remarks tomorrow and hope to see real movement from the White House on finding agreeable long-term spending reforms." "I am hopeful that the President will use his remarks tomorrow as an opportunity to bring people together in favor of reasonable long-term spending reforms tied to the lifting of the debt ceiling," concluded Congressman Lawler. "Anything less would indicate the President is putting politics before the full faith and credit of the United States."
