LAWLER: BIDEN ADMINISTRATION SIGNS OFF ON MTA TAXING FIRST RESPONDERS AND SUBURBAN COMMUTERS

Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) released the following statement after the Federal Highway Administration provided a legal letter of sufficiency to the Metropolitan Transit Authority.

"In a classic Friday news dump, the Federal Highway Administration sent a legal letter of sufficiency to the MTA, paving the way for congestion pricing to move one step closer to reality," said Congressman Lawler. "This is completely unacceptable."

"The MTA is the worst-run authority in the country, and President Biden and his administration have just signed off on the MTA's plan to tax first responders and suburban commuters with their congestion pricing scheme," concluded Congressman Lawler. "The MTA should have to go without additional federal funding if they move forward with this plan, which is the goal of my bipartisan bill, H.R. 422, the Anti-CongestionTax Act. Until the MTA gives up this ridiculous effort to grab more money from suburban residents, they shouldn't receive another cent from the DOT."

New York's 17th Congressional District is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester County.
