CONGRESSMAN MIKE LAWLER CALLS FOR INVESTIGATION INTO SOURCE OF MAJOR BRUSH FIRE IN ROCKLAND COUNTY

Haverstraw, NY, 4/14/2023… Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) released the following statement after first responders were able to contain a significant brush fire that threatened the lives and homes of thousands of residents in NY-17.

"Throughout the day, I have been in contact with the Governor's Office, Rockland County Executive Ed Day, the Supervisors of Haverstraw, Clarkstown, and Stony Point, and the Mayors of West Haverstraw and Haverstraw regarding the fire," said Rep. Lawler. "Our brave volunteer firefighters deserve an enormous amount of credit for their rapid response and brave efforts to fight back the flames, saving countless homes and lives. We are forever in their debt."

"I was just on a virtual meeting with CSX officials and local elected officials this morning where we discussed the threat of brush fires along their rail line, among other topics," continued Rep. Lawler.

"I expect CSX to cooperate fully with an investigation into how this incident occurred," concluded Rep. Lawler. "We need to get to the bottom of this and fully understand what happened, and work to prevent it from ever occurring again."
