CONGRESSMEN LAWLER RELEASES STATEMENT PRAISING THE REPORTED RESTORATION OF POWER-SHARING IN BELFAST
Washington, DC,
January 30, 2024
Today, Congressman Mike Lawler, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement praising the reported movement towards the restoration of power-sharing in Northern Ireland, which Congressman Lawler introduced legislation on last year. “It’s been almost two years since the Democratic Unionist Party blocked Sinn Féin from taking office in Northern Ireland,” said Congressman Lawler. “The news that the DUP is finally coming to the table and entering into a power-sharing agreement is welcome news.” “During my visit to Dublin in the fall, I stressed the importance of power-sharing in Northern Ireland and highlighted my resolution, H.Res.596, which called for the restoration of government in Belfast,” concluded Congressman Lawler. “I will never stop working to ensure the Good Friday Agreement is implemented properly and ensure democracy for the people of Northern Ireland.” New York's 17th Congressional District, home to a significant Irish population, is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. |
