Earlier today, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) announced legislation renaming the Haverstraw Post Office after former Rockland County Clerk Paul Piperato. Congressman Lawler was joined by Rockland County Executive Ed Day, Rockland County Clerk Donna Silberman, Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco, Haverstraw Town Supervisor Howie Phillips, other countywide and local elected officials, and members of Paul Piperato's family.

Piperato became Rockland County Clerk in 2005 and held the position until his passing in 2020. He served Rockland County families for more than three decades, beginning his storied career in public service in 1988 as a Budget Examiner in the Rockland County Finance Department.

Paul Piperato was appointed Deputy County Clerk by County Clerk Ed Gorman in 1989 and served until the latter's passing in 2005. Prior to becoming County Clerk, Paul Piperato served two four-year terms as a Haverstraw Town Councilman. He was also Town Police Commissioner, served on a number of commissions and committees, and had served as both Labor and Police Liaison and Deputy Town Supervisor.

"Paul's journey of public service is a testament to his character," said Congressman Mike Lawler. "Paul's warmth, humor, and genuine care for people made him a beloved figure. His joy in welcoming new citizens during naturalization ceremonies encapsulated his love for our community and country. He wasn’t just a clerk; Paul was a pillar of Haverstraw and Rockland County, a man who dedicated his life to the service of others."

"This fitting tribute symbolizes his unwavering dedication and the indelible mark he left on our community," Congressman Lawler concluded. "Renaming the post office is not just a recognition of Paul's service, but a permanent reminder of his commitment to improving the lives of those around him."
