Congressman Lawler Praises Placement of Houthis Back on US Terror List

Today, Congressman Lawler released the following statement after the reported decision by the Biden administration to relist the Iran-backed Houthis as a specially designated global terrorist (SDGT).

“I’m glad to see that President Biden has finally placed the Houthis back on the terror list after removing them at the beginning of his term,” said Congressman Mike Lawler. “With the Houthis threatening the entire international supply chain daily by attacking US and allied ships, this was a necessary and overdue step.”

“We should go a step further, however, by finally passing and signing the SHIP Act into law,” concluded Congressman Lawler. “The threat posed by the Houthis and other Iranian proxies in the region will only be eliminated by cutting off funding from Iran’s primary economic engine - their illicit oil trade. The SHIP Act would do just that.”
