Moldova Caucus Co-Chairs Mike Lawler (NY-17) and Deborah Ross (NC-02) issued the following joint statement in response to the European Commission's recent recommendation for the European Council to begin negotiations with Moldova for EU membership.

"We are thrilled to hear that the EU’s European Commission has recommended that the European Council open formal accession negotiations with Moldova," said Representatives Lawler and Ross."This development is a significant step forward for Moldova and reflects positively on all the reforms instituted by the Sandu Administration. We are hopeful that negotiations will ultimately lead to Moldova joining the EU in the near future and help bolster peace and security in the region."
