Antisemitism

Antisemitism has no place in America, and I am proud to be one of the loudest voices in Congress to call it out and stand up against it. As the representative of one of the largest Jewish communities in the country, I’ve made fighting hatred one of my top priorities in Congress. We’ve witnessed a disturbing surge in antisemitic incidents on college campuses, in our streets, online, and even at houses of worship. It is unacceptable, and I’ve taken concrete action against it.
Here’s What I’ve Done Introduced the bipartisan Antisemitism Awareness Act, which requires the Department of Education to use the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism when enforcing federal anti-discrimination laws under Title VI, giving administrators and the federal government the tools they need to identify and stop antisemitism on college campuses. In the 118th Congress, the bill passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support (320-91), and I reintroduced it early in this Congress. I am currently working to push it across the finish line. I have also partnered with my Democratic colleague, Rep. Dan Goldman from New York City, on the Jewish American Security Act. This legislation significantly increases funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, helping synagogues, Jewish schools, and other religious institutions strengthen their physical security. The bill also establishes an Antisemitism Coordinator at the Department of Education and holds social media platforms accountable for the spread of antisemitic hate online. I’ve also worked with a Democrat Congressman from New Jersey, Josh Gottheimer, to introduce a bipartisan resolution condemning the rise in antisemitic rhetoric spread by prominent online personalities. The resolution calls on social media platforms to take stronger action against hate speech and its extremist purveyors online. I will continue to call out antisemitism wherever it appears, support our Jewish communities, and stand firmly with Israel against those who seek to destroy it. |
