As a proud dog owner, Charlie always lights up even the toughest of days. I still remember picking him up when he was just a puppy—those floppy ears causing him to trip as he ran towards us—and my wife and I knew immediately he was the one we wanted to bring home. In Congress, I’ve fought for additional protection for our pets and am a proud cosponsor of the Puppy Protection Act. This bill would expand standards that govern dog breeders’ humane handling and care, ensuring that they provide adequate living conditions and medical care. It also seeks to ensure that dog breeders use safe breeding practices and that dogs who are retired from breeding are kept in humane conditions.
