Getting our National Debt Under Control

Our national debt is now over $35 trillion. As a father, it pains me to see the debt we are saddling on our children and grandchildren.

The 118th Congress has taken important steps to get out of the mess that decades of heavy deficit spending by both parties has gotten us into. The Fiscal Responsibility Act, signed into law as a result of last year's debt ceiling negotiation, was the single-largest deficit reduction in our nation's history. It reduced discretionary spending for the first time in decades, cut non-defense and non-veterans spending to below 2022 levels, saves taxpayers $2.1 trillion over six years while blocking $5 trillion in proposed new taxes, and caps spending at 1% growth over the next six years. My colleagues and I have taken further steps address Washington's spending problem through the 2024 and 2025 Fiscal Year appropriations bills, while protecting crucial services and programs like Social Security, Medicare and veterans' care.

I'm going to continue working with members of both parties to get our nation's fiscal house in order. Do you agree that we must rein in spending? Let me know by responding to the survey below!
