Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) released the following statement after hearing the news of Army SPC Zachary Zamot's passing.

Specialist (SPC) Zachary Zamot, an active-duty Army soldier from Rockland County stationed with the 160th Aviation Special Forces Group in Fort Campbell, KY, passed away late last week. He served in the Special Operations and Night Stalkers, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).

"I was heartbroken to hear of Specialist Zachary Zamot's passing last week," said Congressman Mike Lawler. "His service and sacrifice on behalf of his countrymen was known by many and as a member of an elite Special Operations unit in the United States Army, he was at the forefront of defending our nation."

"I mourn his loss and express my heartfelt condolences to his family," concluded Congressman Lawler. "As scripture tells us, 'Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.' Truly, Specialist Zamot lived those words."

New York's 17th Congressional District is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
