LAWLER BLASTS PROPOSED TOLL HIKES ON NEW TAPPAN ZEE BRIDGE

Rep. Lawler released the following statement following news breaking that tolls may soon increase on the new Tappan Zee Bridge.

“New York State's government and its excessive taxes and fees are already the face of the affordability crisis impacting so many families across the Hudson Valley," said Rep. Lawler. "Now, Governor Hochul and the Thruway Authority want to commit highway robbery by raising tolls on Hudson Valley residents right after increasing the state budget to over 229 billion dollars."

"This also comes on the heels of Governor Hochul's effort to accelerate the implementation of congestion pricing, another fee that first responders and workers who commute to New York City will be forced to hand over," continued Rep. Lawler. "It is absurd to continue to ask my constituents to pay fee after fee after fee."

"The taxpaying residents of the Hudson Valley should not serve as a cash cow for Governor Hochul and Albany Democrats' progressive wishlists, and this toll hike is a slap in the face to every hard-working New Yorker who crosses this bridge," concluded Congressman Lawler. "Residents of New York's 17th District shouldn't have to fork over another cent in tolls crossing a bridge whose name doesn't reflect the will of the residents here."

New York's 17th Congressional District is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester County.
