Congressman Mike Lawler Releases Statement Reacting to Untimely Passing of His Constituent, James Earl Jones

Today, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) released the following statement after the untimely passing of his constituent, James Earl Jones. Congressman Lawler had previously introduced legislation on, fittingly, Star Wars Day (May 4th, 2024) recognizing James Earl Jones' immense contributions and seeking to award him a Congressional Gold Medal.

"During my time in office, I've been blessed to have the opportunity to represent the Hudson Valley, including its many residents," said Congressman Lawler. "Sadly, we lost one of the great ones today, in James Earl Jones, a constituent of mine in Dutchess County."

"I was honored to introduce legislation to honor James Earl Jones this Congress, and I'm sad that we won't be able to award him his Congressional Gold Medal in person," concluded Congressman Lawler. "My prayers are with his family as one of the greatest screen and stage actors ever rests in peace."

Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of the 118th Congress and represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
