Congressman Mike Lawler Praises Passage of Bipartisan Appropriations Package

Today, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) released the following statement after voting in favor of the bipartisan appropriations package, H.Res.1061, that passed the House 339-85, with all but one member from New York voting in favor of the legislation.

The bipartisan appropriations package included a number of major bipartisan wins for New York’s 17th District:

  • Reduced topline federal spending
  • Provided almost $36 million in Community Project Funding for 17 projects across NY-17
  • Protected Social Security and Medicare
  • Secured over $800,000 funding for the Mount Pleasant Police Department
  • Extended the Undetectable Firearms Act for 7 years
  • Fully funded SNAP and WIC
  • Maintained current levels of Amtrak funding
  • Expanded military construction on military bases
  • Preserved funding for Veterans Services

“I was proud to vote for H.Res.1061, which delivered almost $36 million in Community Project Funding to the 17th District,” said Congressman Lawler. “Since day one of my term, I’ve been fighting to bring back more money to our district, and with quadruple the Community Project funding coming to NY-17 in FY2024 than in FY2022, it’s clear we’re delivering on that promise.”

“Whether it’s continuing to protect Social Security and Medicare, funding veterans services, or maintaining current levels of Amtrak funding, all while reducing topline spending, this bill is a clear win for NY-17 families,” concluded Congressman Lawler. “I won’t stop fighting for Hudson Valley values.”

New York's 17th Congressional District is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
