CONGRESSMAN LAWLER REACTS TO ANNOUNCED APPROPRIATIONS DEAL BETWEEN JOHNSON AND SCHUMER

Today, Congressman Lawler released the following statement reacting to the Appropriations agreement between House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

“As I have said from my first day in Congress, we must cut spending through Regular Order to put our economy back on the right track and get inflation under control,” said Congressman Lawler. “The bipartisan Fiscal Responsibility Act was an important first step back in May, and I’m thrilled to see that Speaker Johnson and Majority Leader Schumer were able to come to a spending agreement in line with the reduced spending levels from the FRA.”

“This agreement will result in the first nondefense, non-VA cuts in years, potentially reducing spending by up to $200 billion over the next decade,” continued Congressman Lawler. “While this is a good start, there is more work to be done to get our runaway national debt and budget under control.”

“I look forward to working with my colleagues in the coming months to finalize this spending agreement, preserve Social Security, Medicare, and veterans services, and set our country on the right fiscal path,” concluded Congressman Lawler.
