The Messenger: Congressional Republicans Criticize Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair for Israel Comments

Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Charles Q. Brown suggested Israel was not in a position now to defeat Hamas

Republicans in Congress criticized Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Charles Q. Brown for publicly questioning Israel's ability to currently fully defeat Hamas.

"The chairman must recognize his words carry enormous weight in his new role, and they undermine Israel, our greatest ally, at the very moment much of the world has turned against them as they defend themselves," Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., told the New York Post.

“If General Brown is worried about how long it may take the Israelis to accomplish this mission, he should advise the president to drop his push for a ceasefire,” said Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis., in an interview with the newspaper.

During a trip to Japan on Nov. 9, Brown told reporters that destroying Hamas is a "pretty large order" that will only become harder the longer the conflict goes on.
