Tax Relief for Hudson Valley Families

The first bill I introduced in Congress was the SALT Marriage Penalty Elimination Act. This legislation will fix one of the most unfair elements of the SALT deduction cap that was imposed in 2017 - the marriage penalty.

Under current law, individuals can deduct up to $10,000 on their federal income tax return for state and local taxes (SALT). A married couple filing a joint return, however, can still only deduct $10,000, and just $5,000 if filing separate returns. With how much families are struggling to navigate a crippling affordability crisis, having to pay a tax penalty just for being married adds insult to injury.

As I continue working with colleagues in both parties to get this legislation passed, please let me know how you feel about tax relief for Hudson Valley families by responding to the survey below.
